Job Description
The Veterinarian will be in charge of the animal collection’s health, including quarantine and medical operations. The veterinarian will also assist with the purchase and disposition of animals in the collection, as well as animal transportation and hand rearing techniques as needed.

Qualifications:
- Successfully performs physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical and dental procedures. Clients are given information about their pets’ diagnoses, treatment plans, preventive health care, and dietary needs.
- All animals not already vaccinated against rabies are vaccinated when immunization is suitable, and all animals released from quarantine observation are confirmed as rabies-free. Provides information to animal bite victims, such as the steps they should take to ensure their safety.
- Policies and procedures for the care and use of laboratory animals, including per diem costs in the Animal Facility, are being revised, updated, and developed.
- Clients provide a lot of data, and he listens to and understands their issues and aspirations.
- Employees receive training in animal husbandry, humane animal handling, cleanliness and disease control, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical support (intake and discharge), and animal first aid. Assists in animal euthanasia via injection training, evaluation, and execution. Examines all seized animals and orders their euthanasia if any are sick or injured.
- Written medical treatment protocols are established and implemented. Ability to decipher animal control ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations, as well as city policies. Able to respond to questions from the general public and city officials Assist in resolving issues quickly and effectively.
- Ability to receive animal data from employees, enter dispositions into a computer, and prepare monthly and weekly reports following established procedures.
- Ability to obtain and control euthanasia drugs and equipment, as well as ensure that supplies and equipment are used correctly and in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations and laws. Ability to stay current with trends and breakthroughs in the field of animal sheltering.
- Performs high-quality sterilization surgery for the population management of adopted animals in a fast-paced shelter environment. Routine veterinarian care includes things like triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of sick and injured animals, minor surgery, vaccines, and testing.
- Maintains client/patient medical/surgical records and ensures that all relevant logs are kept up to date according to established protocols.
Skills:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or similar degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary medicine college
- Possess (or obtain) a Federal DEA license, as well as a controlled substance registration.
- Must be able to operate in a team environment while still completing duties independently.
- Understanding of the ZIMS medical record system.
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities are required.
