Qualifications:
- Work on construction projects with other contractors and local officials, providing direction and mechanical support as required. Participates in a range of training sessions to keep aware of emerging trends in the construction sector as well as relevant inspection regulations.
- Attends construction meetings and other trainings to verify that work is being completed in accordance with plans and regulations; keeps aware of new materials used in construction, repair scams, and changes in pertinent rules and laws.
- checks the installation of mobile and manufactured structures for compliance with manufacturer and state rules, as needed.
- Expert in applicable regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment; provides information to customers; functions as a subject matter expert.
- A complete assessment of all building activities is provided to assure compliance, safety, and competence at a large number of construction sites around the City.
- Federal, state, and municipal requirements are investigated and corrective procedures are devised. Alternate ways of compliance are also approved by the proper authorities, as are plans for conformance.
- Building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing inspections are performed on residential and light commercial structures to verify that new construction, changes, and repairs are in compliance with building codes, laws, zoning rules, and contract requirements.
- Assistance in addressing difficult, emotionally charged, and time-sensitive customer service problems relating to construction laws and requirements
- Conducted site inspections to verify that contractors are adhering to specifications and inspecting the quality of their work, as well as visiting construction sites and the places where they do business.
- Issues and writes notices of violation, citations, and closures; performs follow-up inspections to ensure changes are done; patrols and checks construction sites on a regular basis to monitor building progress and code compliance.
Skills:
- Possession of the capacity to detect and correct any violations or flaws in building construction materials and procedures at any level of construction.
- Extensive knowledge of municipal development and/or building regulations, including the ability to understand specifications/plans.
- A temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license from the DBPR within 90 days after hire, which must be converted to a normal license within the term required by the DBPR to work for the department.
- A high school diploma or GED is necessary, as is five years of comparable job experience in construction, plumbing, electrical, or similar fields.
- you must have a certification in erosion and sedimentation control within six months of starting your job.
