Job Description
This person is in charge of city planning, which means he or she has to look at, organize, and conduct complex planning studies that make sure that City Codes and ordinances are obeyed. They also have to make sure that planning site plan conditions and restrictions are met, and that Zoning Ordinance permits are given out. Employees in this group do administrative work at a higher level than normal. They are supervisors and professionals. In this job, you’ll be in charge of directing, implementing, and enforcing the City and County’s Zoning Code and rules. Performs other duties as needed.

Qualifications:
- Coordination, presentation, writing, editing and processing of plan chapters and changes, status reports and other relevant duties.
- In the city, zoning and urban planning are the responsibility of the director in charge of such matters. They suggest and execute improvements to the city’s zoning plan review process and urban planning programme, as well as any procedural adjustments (i.e amendments to the plans, site plans, drawings, and reports, etc).
- Do research and write reports on issues relating to land use. They also lead efforts to involve communities and stakeholders in the design and implementation of these efforts.
- Ensures the establishment of programs for accumulating and evaluating data on economic, social, and physical aspects impacting land use and for creating visual and narrative reports on data.
- Internal agencies and developers must be able to understand complicated information easily and properly.
- Competently utilizes a wide range of current office tools, software, and functionalities.
- Formulate a daily delivery strategy that makes good use of available assets including equipment, personnel, and other resources while also exceeding customers’ expectations.
- As data and research accumulate, this individual may assist in the formulation of improvement strategies and the formulation of new objectives.
- Acquisition, completion examination, and processing of development applications, which may include site plans, subdivision requests, conditional use permits, and other land development proposals; ensuring that applications are in compliance with the Urban Development Code and Comprehensive Plan; coordinating with other departments as needed.
- Prepares documents for public hearings, meetings, and board presentations. City Council, Planning Commissions, Architectural Design Review Boards, and the public get full reports on development projects.
Skills:
- Zoning rules, regulations and ordinances must be quickly learned and well understood.
- A person who can solve problems and make good decisions; thinks quickly and rationally; and stays calm in difficult situations is good at what they do.
- Having a thorough understanding of a community’s physical, socioeconomic, and cultural features is essential. Knowledge of current and forthcoming trends in site and urban planning is also required. Land use rules, real estate, and development laws are all based on legal principles, and this knowledge is essential.
- Professional experience in municipal planning and zoning functions, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity, in the fields of urban planning, environmental planning, regional planning, or urban design is required. Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience in a municipal planning and zoning function is required.
- At the professional level, understanding and practical knowledge with the principles and methods of urban planning and redevelopment are essential skills.
