Job Description
The Building Inspector is in charge of overseeing inspection operations for building and facility construction projects at the state level. Acts as a field representative for facilities management in terms of progress and issue solutions. Provides technical help in the execution, supervision, and evaluation of activities. Coordinates with a registered professional architect or engineer, who has ultimate approval authority over project work. Reports to the Facilities Project Development Manager. Travel is required for work. Contact with various governmental agencies and commercial groups, including contractors, is required as part of the job. Employees at this level are largely self-supervising and have direct responsibility for the work result.

Qualifications:
- All building projects and activities are subject to his scrutiny; he must ensure that they comply with all relevant laws, rules, and industry standards.
- Assists in the settlement of complex and delicate customer service issues arising from construction codes and regulations.
- Informs customers about codes and other regulatory requirements; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment.
- Work done by outside contractors and municipal employees to make sure it meets contract and quality standards; checks work being done and materials on hand at construction sites as well as contractors’ offices; makes sure that work is done on time.
- Residential and light commercial buildings are inspected to verify that new construction, changes and repairs comply with building standards, legislation, zoning limitations and contractual obligations.
- you will identify violations and suitable corrective measures, develop and communicate strategies for achieving compliance, and authorize other methods of complying with federal, state, and local rules and laws, and regulations.
- Staying aware on new building materials, new repair scams, and changes in pertinent laws and ordinances is essential; attending construction meetings and other training sessions to ensure that work is completed in accordance with plans and codes is essential.
- doing follow-up checks to ensure that the remedial actions taken have been put in place.
- Be a resource for other contractors and city employees who are working on construction projects by giving them guidance and providing encouragement to do their jobs.
- Compliance with manufacturer specifications and any relevant state standards for mobile/manufactured structure installations is verified by the inspectors
Skills:
- An Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certification at the time of hiring or the capacity to earn within six months.
- Work experience in the building trades (plumbing, electrical, etc.) and a high school graduation or GED are prerequisites for this position. Both a four-year college degree or a GED are necessary.
- Material and procedure knowledge for all building construction materials and processes as well as the stages in which violations and faults may be easily discovered are essential.
- Work experience in a construction-related field such as carpentry, where interpretation of specifications/plans and confirmation of conformity with local development and/or building codes are required.
- DBPR One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license within 90 days of hiring, which must be transferred to a normal license during the necessary term of the department.
