Full-Time Deputy Medical Examiner – Al Hinakiyah
Job Description
This role assists in the investigation of suspicious, unnatural, or violent deaths; serves as a liaison between the State Medical Examiner’s Office and county medical examiner offices; and does related activities as required.

Qualifications:
- Investigates reports from outside agencies and helps the Forensic Pathologists identify the dead by speaking with the deceased’s physician to learn about the deceased’s medical, psychological, or psychiatric history. They also obtain/review the deceased’s medical and dental records.
- Case documents, including reports, diagrams and charts, are prepared by the incumbent for the goal of establishing the cause and manner of death. On a rotating basis, the incumbent attends to death scenes and makes jurisdictional judgments in the evening and night shifts. As required, the incumbent testifies in federal and state courts, as well as circuit courts in surrounding jurisdictions. Assists the Chief or Deputy Chief Medical Examiner with specific initiatives. Infection control and monitoring are implemented.
- Attend seminars, training programs, and suitable courses to keep your knowledge and skills current in your field of expertise.
- Inquires concerning the qualifications of expert witnesses for any forensic criminal and civil proceedings that may be relevant to the cases being examined and for any other forensic demands that may emerge in the County,
- A computerized, web-based records management system will be used to submit all death investigation reports on time, in a format that is easy to understand and impartial.
- Completely documents and organizes all investigation material; creates complete case reports and records; develops investigative summaries; and subpoenas police reports and medical records as necessary.
- Medical information is made available to law enforcement authorities, attorneys, judges, other medical experts, relatives of the deceased, the news media, the District Attorney’s Office, and the general public, among other groups.
- In order to determine how and why someone died, investigators gather evidence at the scene of the crime or death, including medical history, medication usage and mental state at the time of death, as well as weapons and other items. They also take photos and videos of the scene and speak with friends, family and other people who may have seen what happened.
- A number of pathology conferences, including the Neurophysiology Conference, Case Consensus Meeting, and Toxicology Rounds, among others, are attended by him. Among other things, neurophysiology is a discipline of study that teaches residents and medical students how to do operations such as examining brains and spinal cords. Additionally, this person contributes to the creation and implementation of other educational programs that are produced by the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner/Medical Director and his or her team of medical professionals. This person gives relevant lectures and presentations, and he or she also attends forensic pathology symposiums and conferences as a member of the profession.
- Responds to regular queries and complaints, investigates and begins issue resolution, and sends complaints/problems to relevant staff.
Skills:
- Expertise in evidence processing and manufacturing processes to maintain accountability in the chain of custody (COC).
- An associate’s degree in biology or medical science, para-medicine, or a closely similar area of study from a recognized institution, with 1,000 hours of verifiable work experience in the field of study. Work experience in the field is desired.
- At the time of employment, a current license to practice medicine in the state is required by the Department of Professional Regulations.
- It is critical that you have a working knowledge of the medical/dental examination and identification process, as well as the causes and repercussions of trauma, as well as a comprehension of natural illnesses
- Performs duties efficiently and successfully with minimal supervision, demonstrating a high degree of initiative, effort, attention to detail, and dedication in the process.
