This position assists in the investigation of suspicious, unnatural, or violent deaths; acts as a liaison between the State Medical Examiner’s Office and the county medical examiner offices; serves as a liaison between families of decedents and general public; and performs other related work as needed..

Qualifications:
- He attends a wide variety of pathology conferences, including the Neurophysiology Conference, the Case Consensus Meeting, and the Toxicology Roundups. This individual is the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner/Medical Director’s primary source of information on forensic neurophysiology, as well as an expert who can explain the complexities of neurophysiology to medical students and residents. She teaches and presents on the topic of forensic pathology at conferences and symposium in the field.
- Any forensic criminal and civil proceedings connected to the cases under consideration, as well as any other forensic demands that may develop in the County, should be investigated for expert witness credentials.
- An online records management system must get all death investigation reports on time and in a certain way. It is important to be accurate and impartial at all times, even when you’re writing.
- Investigates the site of a death or a crime to find out what caused it and how it was done. This includes gathering evidence such as medical records, prescription medication information, a victim’s mental condition, evidence from the scene, etc. to aid in the investigation.
- Determines the dead’s medical, psychological, and/or mental history by speaking with the deceased’s physician; acquires and evaluates the deceased’s health care and dental records; investigates reports from outside agencies; and aids forensic pathologists in identifying the deceased.
- Responds to routine queries and complaints, investigates and resolves issues, and refers complaints/problems to the appropriate employees for resolution.
- You may keep your knowledge and skills up-to-date by attending seminars, workshops, and training programs.
- All investigation material, including summaries, complete case reports, and records, is retained. As appropriate, the investigator subpoenas police reports and medical records.
- Obtains medical information from a variety of sources including law enforcement agencies, lawyers, judges, other medical professionals, families of dead persons, the news media, district attorneys, and the general public.
- In order to determine the cause and manner of death, the incumbent gathers case materials, which may include all reports, diagrams, charts, and photos, as well as evidence and confirmation papers. This position handles cases that come in during evening and night shifts and is responsible for making jurisdictional decisions and attending to death scenes on a rotational basis. If necessary, the incumbent will testify before federal and district courts in the United States, as well as circuit courts in neighboring jurisdictions.. This office is responsible for completing any responsibilities given to it by the Chief or Deputy Chief Medical Examiner. Infectious illness control and monitoring are put into practice.
Skills:
- The Department of Professional Regulations requires a valid license to practice medicine in the state at the time of employment.
- Detailed knowledge of the techniques, procedures, and processes utilized in the processing and production of evidence in order to ensure chain of custody control
- A comprehension of how trauma impacts a person’s health, as well as a working knowledge of natural disease sources, is vital.
- For consideration, you must have an associate’s degree in biology or a closely related area of study and at least 1,000 hours of confirmed work experience in a field connected to your studies. If you’ve worked in the field before, you’ll have an advantage.
