Job Description
This role assists in the investigation of suspicious, unnatural, or violent deaths; serves as a liaison between the State Medical Examiner’s Office and county medical examiner offices; and does related activities as required.

Qualifications:
- A person’s medical history, medication use, and mental condition at the time of death, as well as weapons and other evidence, are gathered at the scene of a crime or death by investigators. They also capture photographs and videos of the area and interview friends, relatives, and anybody else who may have seen the incident.
- Examines the dead’s medical, psychological, and mental history with the physician who cared for him or her; acquires and evaluates the deceased’s medical and dental records; investigates reports from outside agencies; and supports the Forensic Pathologists in determining who the deceased was.
- Attending continuing education seminars, training programs, and suitable courses may help you maintain and improve your professional knowledge and abilities.
- Case documents, including reports, diagrams and charts, are prepared by the incumbent for the goal of establishing the cause and manner of death. On a rotating basis, the incumbent attends to death scenes and makes jurisdictional judgments in the evening and night shifts. As required, the incumbent testifies in federal and state courts, as well as circuit courts in surrounding jurisdictions. Assists the Chief or Deputy Chief Medical Examiner with specific initiatives. Infection control and monitoring are implemented.
- Provides medical records to law enforcement agencies, lawyers, judges, other medical professionals, dead families, the news media, the District Attorney’s Office, and the general public.
- Provides expert witness services for all forensic criminal and civil actions linked to the cases that have been investigated and for any other forensic needs in County.
- There will be no omissions when it comes to the documentation of the probe. Police reports and medical data are requested by the investigator when necessary.
- An online records management system must get all death investigation reports on time and in a certain way. It is important to be accurate and impartial at all times, even when you’re writing.
- There are several pathology conferences he goes to, including the Neurophysiology Conference, Case Consensus Meeting, and Toxicological Rounds. Among other things, neurophysiology instructs medical students and residents on how to do operations like examining brains and spinal cords. Additional educational programs are planned and delivered by the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner/Medical Director and his or her staff with the assistance of this person. As a member of the field of forensic pathology, this person has the opportunity to present and teach on relevant topics.
- Responds to regular queries and complaints, investigates and begins issue resolution, and sends complaints/problems to relevant staff.
Skills:
- For consideration, you must have an associate’s degree in biology or a closely related area of study and at least 1,000 hours of confirmed work experience in a field connected to your studies. If you’ve worked in the field before, you’ll have an advantage.
