Job Description

Engineering Technician is a position that is both practical and analytical. He/she will be in charge of developing the DVT-forming process, as well as participating in continuous improvement and root cause analysis operations, under the supervision of Manufacturing Engineers. Data entry, reporting, troubleshooting, issue resolution, and logistics will all be included in these responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have mechanical aptitude, the ability to meet tight deadlines, great interpersonal and communication skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to work both independently and under supervision.

Qualifications:

  • In addition to calculating the ratios and volumes required by the project, angles and slopes are calculated, construction quantities and other project components are computed, cost estimates are produced, and the accuracy of third-party contractor computations and calculations is validated.
  • Prepares plans, skilled engineering drawings, specifications, details, maps, plats, and other displays for engineering projects using GPS, GIS, and CADD software, as well as contributes to the design of larger, more complex projects related to public infrastructure.
  • The construction specifications are developed, and the contractor specifications are reviewed for compliance with established rules and regulations; bid proposals are organized and cost estimates are calculated; project contract documents and all necessary permits are prepared; materials, labor, and equipment costs are reviewed for accuracy; and technical guidance is provided for construction as needed.
  • Provides engineering-related customer service; interacts with professional design consultants; plans public outreach and creates information for distribution; draughts letters and bulk mailings for project explanations; and responds to citizen concerns, enquiries, and complaints.
  • The following are typical responsibilities for this role. The absence of clear explanations of the requirements does not rule them out if the task is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this categorization. Other tasks and duties could be requested and assigned.
  • Compiles, studies, and analyses a variety of engineering and operational data in support of County infrastructure; participates in field and topography surveys for design assignments and to stake/field layout design components for construction projects; assesses road conditions and determines the corrective measures needed to repair or resurface the roads; inspects construction to ensure adherence to designs and project specifications per work site; and performs various specialized tasks as needed.
  • The incumbent is responsible for maintaining electronic and hardcopy records of daily department activities; completing project records and design/drawing files for assigned projects; and keeping database files updated as necessary.
  • Responds to and fixes malfunctioning or broken-down mechanical equipment. Resolving issues (when necessary). It is necessary to replace worn-out or malfunctioning components such as motors and control devices.
  • Researches, compiles, and analyses legal descriptions, permit reports, deeds, plats, plans, and other property data; interprets maps and plats; compiles information on grant, permit, and environmental laws compliance; and creates and/or updates various maps using CAD.
  • Examines a variety of residential and commercial plans, plats, permits, reports, and studies for ordinances and construction standards compliance; assesses designs and provides preliminary conclusions on technical compliance difficulties. Working with third-party architects and engineers to resolve issues and offer code compliance direction; evaluating and assessing the impact of the planned project; and making recommendations for approval and/or remedial actions to address deviations or violations

Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related area of study or an engineering degree equal to this job is required for this post.
  • Prior to their appointment, all candidates who have been provisionally chosen for VA employment in a testing specified post must undergo a urine screening for illicit drug use. Refusal to take the exam is grounds for rejection from the VA.
  • Strong computer and highway design software knowledge. Works with computer-related products such AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble, the internet, spreadsheets, word processing, State software for Road and Bridge, and other applications as needed or taught.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are an absolute must.
  • Three years of surveying, drafting, and sub-professional civil engineering work experience; or any similar combination of education, training, and experience that offers the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position.
