Job Description
Firefighters respond to calls for fire suppression, hazardous materials response, and rescue operations within their jurisdiction; they also control crowds and traffic at emergency scenes; they provide medical assistance at the First Responder level when necessary; and they perform other related tasks as needed. Firefighters are required to have a valid driver’s license. This class follows certain processes but makes decisions about how and when to complete tasks; work is checked on a regular basis by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

- Initiates firefighting operations and aids in the suppression of blazes by performing rescue and entry operations as well as ventilation and salvage work; penetrates buildings, looks for and rescues trapped individuals, and performs ventilation and salvage operations.

Skills:
- Applicants must be able to pass an NFPA 1582 physical exam before being hired. To lift, carry, push, pull, or move anything, one must be physically capable of exerting up to one hundred pounds of force sometimes and/or regularly.
- CPR and first aid certifications, as well as the capacity to complete 240 hours worth of training every year in addition to the responsibilities of the job, are required.
- Having the ability to work together with others, to recognize and respect lines of authority, and to maintain cordial relationships with members of the public.
- Keeping all necessary licenses valid is a condition of continuous employment, and the employee must have the license with them at all times throughout the work day.
