Job Description
It’s up to a Medical Examiner to run tests, analyze and interpret data from investigations, sign official documents, testify at court hearings, take photos of evidence, and give medical information about the dead. They also do other things as needed.

Qualifications:
- To figure out how and why someone died, an investigator gathers evidence at the scene, such as medical history, medications, psychological state at the time of death, weapons, and more. He or she also takes photos and videos of the scene, interviews relatives, friends, and witnesses of the deceased, and takes photos and videos of the scene.
- Detailed case reports and records of all information gathered during investigations are retained. Also requested are police reports and medical records by the investigator if necessary.
- Examines the dead’s medical, psychological, and mental history with the physician who cared for him or her; acquires and evaluates the deceased’s medical and dental records; investigates reports from outside agencies; and supports the Forensic Pathologists in determining who the deceased was.
- For example, he attends a neurophysiology conference, a case consensus meeting, and toxicology rounds as part of his work in pathology. In the subject of forensic neurophysiology, medical students and residents learn how to examine brains and spinal cords. In addition, the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner/Medical Director uses this individual to assist in the creation and implementation of additional instructional programs. This individual gives lectures, presentations, and forensic pathology symposiums and conferences.
- For the purpose of providing evidence, case records are collected to document the cause and manner of death and record the facts. Late-night emergencies are handled by this unit on a rotational basis. If necessary, the incumbent may be called to testify in other US District and Federal Courts. Chief or Deputy Medical Examiner’s projects. Keep an eye on the spread of illnesses.
- Obtains expert witness competence for any forensic criminal and civil processes associated with cases examined, as well as for any extra forensic needs that may arise within the County.
- Medical information is made available to law enforcement authorities, attorneys, judges, other medical experts, relatives of the deceased, the news media, the District Attorney’s Office, and the general public, among other groups.
- Keep all death investigation reports in a computerized web-based records management system in a specified format and on time to ensure that they are clear; accurate; impartial.
- Departmental service information and help, forms, processes, fees, and other concerns, as well as responding to regular queries and complaints, is provided by the departmental service coordinator.
- The best way to stay up-to-date in your field is to attend seminars and training programs.

- As mandated by the Department of Professional Regulations, candidates must already have or be able to receive a current license to practice medicine
