Job Description

Working as a forester at the Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry, you’ll be responsible for specialist technical work in the field of forest management (DNR). Ensure that forest areas are developed, maintained, and used in a suitable manner will be your overarching objective.

  • It is his or her primary responsibility to ensure that the City’s tree stock is in good health and to train other Streets Division employees in proper tree care techniques.
  • Assesses application considerations and grants or denies approval; tells applicants in writing of the reason for refusal. Site clearance inspections should be assigned, and participants should be present, to confirm that the designs provided are in compliance with local regulations and ordinances To guarantee that the information included in submitted plans is accurate, coordinate with lower level inspectors about site inspections.
  • Involved in municipal tree and landscaping inspections by providing support and participating in the inspections itself. Plant materials must be of acceptable quality, number and kind; protocols for preserving existing and installing new plants must be followed; and maintenance and care arrangements must be in place. These are all responsibilities of the gardener.
  • Assist in the development of forest stewardship plans for the county’s holdings, which will help them better manage their forestland in the future. We collect and analyze field data as part of our work. These things aid in our understanding of the forest’s construction. Work with your employees and contractors to make the FLAT a reality. Keep an eye on all of the new forestland that you’ve acquired or been given access to lately.
  • It’s important to keep forestry-related websites up-to-date and make new outreach materials that support different forestry programs.
  • Assisting with basic forestry requirements, such as early-rotation and mid-rotation chores, contract administration, and/or other responsibilities as assigned
  • Consults with other site plan review personnel (stormwater, zoning, transportation) to verify that the code requirements for other disciplines can be satisfied without conflicting with the tree and landscape code.
  • This profession encompasses all aspects of forest management and harvest monitoring on company- or privately-owned land.
  • Verifies, sets up, inventorying, road planning, and accessing rights of way are all part of the job. This person helps with the annual thin and harvest schedule by verifying, setting up, inventorying, road planning, and accessing rights of way.

  • An undergraduate degree in urban forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or a related field, with six (6) months experience in tree and landscape inspections.
  • Establish and manage effective tree and landscape inspection programs, execute inspections and detect pathological plant problems while working outdoors, educate staff in plant disease diagnosis and other activities as assigned. Check to see if any trees that have been harmed by disease may be saved. Determine whether or not a landscape design should be approved or rejected by looking at it closely. The enforcement of codes, laws, and regulations must be done with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
  • Excel and Word skills in Microsoft Office, as well as good verbal and written communication skills, must be learned.
