Job Description

Our company is searching for a motivated Forester with previous work experience to join our team responsible for natural resource management. The Forester provides direct assistance to the Senior Resource Forester in a wide range of tasks and responsibilities across all aspects of the industrial forest’s operations. The Forester reports to the Senior Resource Forester. The Forester will be part of a small team of workers that will be engaged in all parts of the company’s natural resource management in order to meet or surpass the company’s yearly objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Ensure that the City’s trees are healthy and safe, and teach other Streets Division employees how to care for them.
  • Responsible for general forestry needs such as early-rotation and mid-rotation duties, contract administration, and/or other activities as needed.
  • Contributes to municipal tree and landscaping inspections by assisting with the inspections and by participating in the inspections themselves. In order to guarantee that plant materials are of acceptable quality, quantity, and type; to ensure that the essential procedures for protecting existing plants and installing new plants are followed; and to ensure that arrangements for maintenance and care are in place.
  • By confirming, setting up, inventorying, route planning, getting access to rights of way, and all other activities related to sale administration, this person helps with the yearly thin and harvest schedules.
  • The monitoring of harvests on business or private land at all phases of silviculture and forest management is required.
  • Asses the condition of forestland that is owned by the county and help to write forest stewardship plans that will help guide future restoration and management. Activities include collecting data in the field and analyzing it to figure out the condition of the forest. All recently and recently acquired forestland parcels should be assessed with the help of staff and contractors. They should use the Forest Landscape Assessment Tool (FLAT) to figure out how they’re doing.
  • Keeping forestry-related websites up to date and creating new outreach materials that promote diverse forestry projects is critical.
  • Applications are reviewed, and either granted or denied, and applicants are notified of the grounds for refusal. Coordinate with municipal officials and engage in site clearance inspections to verify that plans presented are in accordance with municipal code and ordinance requirements. To check the accuracy of the information included in the plans that have been filed, coordinate inspections with inspectors at lower levels.
  • Implementation of the regional silviculture strategy and the annual plan, field verification of silviculture treatment candidates, timely status updates for system activity updates, contract performance monitoring including safety, SFI, EMP, production, cost, and quality, silviculture processing
  • Consults with other site plan review personnel (stormwater, zoning, transportation) to verify that the code requirements for other disciplines can be satisfied without conflicting with the tree and landscape code.

Skills:

  • In order to succeed in this role, you will need to be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Six (6) months of experience in landscaping, forestry, nursery operations, or similar employment as well as six (6) months of experience in tree and landscape inspections are required for graduation from an authorized institution or university.
  • Inspecting and diagnosing pathological plant conditions; determining the reparability of diseased and physically damaged trees; reviewing landscaping plans and coming to sound conclusions about their acceptance or rejection; strictly enforcing codes, ordinances, and regulations; instructing others in tree and landscaping inspections; creating and maintaining procedures for tree and landscaping inspections..
  • Capacity to develop and maintain good working connections with coworkers, departments, and the general public.
  • Expertise in all aspects of tree care from planting to trimming to disease inspection to disease eradication is required. Including a thorough understanding of the various methods of tree care.
