Job Description
Professional and specialized building inspections, investigations, and enforcement of building standards, rules, and codes are provided by the Building Inspector. An designated region or expertise is inspected to ensure compliance with relevant rules, laws, and ordinances in terms of safety and structural integrity.

Qualifications:
- his responsibility to inspect and perform evaluations on various building and construction sites throughout the city; it is his responsibility to evaluate all building projects and provide a broad evaluation of all building activities while ensuring that they are in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards of practice.
- Ensures that difficult and sensitive customer service problems may be resolved in the context of construction requirements.
- Be a resource for other contractors and city employees who are working on construction projects by giving them guidance and providing encouragement to do their jobs.
- inspects the quality of the work being conducted by the city’s construction department, as well as work being performed by outside subcontractors and municipal employees.
- Issues and writes notices of violation, citations, or closures; follows up on fixes; patrols and checks sites periodically to oversee construction progress and code compliance.
- Inspections of residential and light commercial buildings, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to verify that new construction, renovations, and repairs conform with building rules, laws, zoning restrictions, and contract requirements.
- Expert in relevant regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers, as well as other safety-related signs and equipment; offers information to consumers; serves as a subject matter expert in a certain field.
- Investigator for possible breaches of federal, state, and local rules, ordinances, and regulations; assesses violations and appropriate rectification actions; decides and communicates strategies to achieve conformity; and authorizes other means to achieve conformance (if necessary).
- Mobile/manufactured structure installations are inspected for compliance with manufacturer and state regulations.
- Abreast of changes in pertinent regulations and laws, new construction materials, and repair scams; attends construction meetings or other trainings to verify that work is being completed in accordance with plans and code requirements.
Skills:
- Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certificate at the time of hire, or the ability to get one in the next six months, if hired.
- Needed knowledge and experience is typically achieved by the completion of a curriculum leading to either a High School Diploma or a GED, and a minimum of five (5) years of work related experience in the construction, plumbing, electrical, or other similar industry is required.
- be able to detect and correct any violations or flaws in building construction materials and procedures at any level of construction.
- Worked as a carpenter for four years requiring the interpretation of designs and the confirmation of conformity with local development and/or building rules.
- DBPR One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license within 90 days of hiring, which must be transferred to a normal license during the necessary term of the department.
