Job Description
There are many things the Medical Examiner does. They help with the investigation of sudden, unnatural, suspicious, or violent deaths. They also work with the Office of the State Medical Examiner, as well as law and other investigative agencies, the families of decedents, and members of the general public.

Qualifications:
- All forensic criminal and civil cases in the County are investigated by this expert witness service. They also provide expert witness services for any other forensic needs.
- Case documents are gathered to record the reason and manner of death and to provide evidence. Responds to death scenes on a rotating basis and handles incidents received late at night. It is possible for the incumbent to testify in other US District and Federal Courts. Projects assigned by the Chief or Deputy Chief Medical Examiner. Controls and monitors infections.
- To keep up with the latest developments in your field, take advantage of educational opportunities such as continuing education seminars, training programs, and the correct educational courses.
- Medical information is provided to law enforcement authorities, attorneys, judges, relatives of the deceased, the news media, the District Attorney’s Office, and the general public.
- To assist forensic pathologists in identifying the deceased, learn as much as you can about the deceased’s medical and mental history by meeting with their doctor, acquiring and reviewing their medical and dental records, and consulting other sources.
- A computerized, web-based records management system will be used to submit all death investigation reports on time, in a format that is easy to understand and impartial.
- Prepares complete case reports and records, as well as investigation summaries and subpoenas for police reports and medical documents, if necessary.
- Customers are served both in-person and over the phone; information or assistance is provided regarding departmental activities, forms, procedures, fees or other issues; routine questions and complaints are addressed; problems are looked into and solutions are initiated; and complaints or problems are referred to the appropriate personnel.
- A person’s medical history, medication use, and mental condition at the time of death, as well as weapons and other evidence, are gathered at the scene of a crime or death by investigators. They also capture photographs and videos of the area and interview friends, relatives, and anybody else who may have seen the incident.
- He attends a variety of pathology conferences, including the Neurophysiology Conference, Case Consensus Meeting, and Toxicology Rounds, among others. Neurophysiology is a branch of study that teaches residents and medical students how to do procedures such as looking at brains and spinal cords, among other things. This individual also contributes to the development and delivery of additional instructional programs that are developed by the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner/Medical Director and his or her staff. This individual delivers related lectures, presentations, and participates in forensic pathology symposiums and conferences.
Skills:
- Learning to perform a medical/dental exam, as well as a grasp of trauma’s effects, natural illnesses, and how to undertake forensic external examinations are all crucial skills to have.
- It is necessary to have an associate’s degree in biology or medical science, para-medicine, or a closely equivalent field of study, as well as at least 1,000 hours of verified work experience in a related field to be considered for this position. It is preferable if you have previous field experience.
