Job Description
When it comes to assessing issues, the Economist employs a wide range of economic and public policy abilities. Cross-examination of corporation and intervention witnesses is required for this position. Examining, assessing, and providing oral and writing recommendations for the Commission on utility petitions for modifications to base rate revenue requirements, base revenue distributions, rate design, additional surcharges, and finance arrangements. The Economist is also involved in all aspects of assigned cases, such as preparing information requests, interrogating expert witnesses during hearings, producing memoranda and policy suggestions, and authoring parts of orders.

Qualifications:
- To analyze data, use mathematical models and statistical methodologies.
- To analyze and anticipate market activity, it is necessary to study previous trends.
- The senior economist directs the economic research, assessment, interpretation, benefit estimation, and reporting.
- Analyze a wide variety of economic policy issues for customers in both the public and private sectors (e.g. market research, surveys, project and impact evaluations, etc.)
- Work collaboratively with other economists and senior executives to convey and present economic ideas and quantitative data to non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.
- Compose and evaluate existing data and do research to locate new data sources for analysis.
- Determines and suggests schedules and methods for delivering economic and financial data in order to meet defined reporting standards, processes, and procedures; aids in the establishment of budget and economic goals and objectives that align with strategic planning activities.
- In response to issues raised by research sponsors, management, or senior staff, plan the study, coordinate its execution, and report on its findings.
- Make sure the department’s tools and products keep up with the business’s needs, including new and innovative ideas.
- Conduct surveys to gather economic data, compare previously provided data to current conditions, and discover the relationships between important economic elements for well-defined projects.
Skills:
- To be considered for the position, a candidate must be self-motivated, eager to learn, and capable of taking on leadership responsibilities.
- Teaching duties at a college or institution that includes both classroom instruction and one of the following: (1) personal research with proof of results, (2) supervision of graduate theses in economics, or (3) work as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
- Strong written and spoken communication abilities, as well as the ability to modify messages for corporate, media/press, academic, technical, and political audiences.
- It is necessary to be familiar with the most recent economics academic research on entrepreneurship, small business, employment, and labor market dynamics in order to succeed in this position.
- Three semester hours of statistics, accountancy, or calculus were necessary.
